Blacksmiths probably listen to The Smiths.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is quite possibly one of the best medieval games out there. It lets you take control of pretty much everything from your character, to your workshops, to your band of mercenaries, and even to your smiths and such. This game gives you the full medieval experience and so much more. However, there is a lot to learn in this game, and missing out on crucial things can affect your gameplay. In this guide, I will be showing you how to properly utilize the Smithing mechanic of the game.
Orders
Smithing, as you can probably guess, is everything from smelting, forging, and refining your armor and weapons. It is an essential part of keeping you and your company’s strong in a fight. That’s why it’s always worth it to take a look at the Smithing menu and checking out the Orders.
The Orders are sort of like requests from your company. The screen will show you all of the orders from your people and it will be mostly weapons. Some will want a two handed sword with specific stats like Swing Cut Damage 70 or Handling 92. These are all to help your company, but doing these orders will help your wallet as well. Do these orders regardless of your experience and difficulty, because it will reward you with so much more gold and experience regardless if you fail.
But if you want to have a higher chance of completing these orders, then it’s a good idea to have more than one Smith in the company. Better yet, you don’t have to be the smith too! You can have two or more Smiths in your party and have them do all of the hard work in completing orders and other smithing duties.
Tech Tree
Like any other skill, you will have a Tech Tree for your Smithing. This doesn’t have to be you exclusively. You can also increase the Smithing of your designated Smiths. But to have a really good Smith, you will need to have 5 Focal Points into Smithing to really get the levels going. Having a maxed out Tech Tree for your Smithing is a great thing to have, as the final skill on the Tech Tree lets you craft a Legendary weapon.
Now to level up your Tech Tree, all you need to do is just create weapons, refine materials, and smelt old weapons. Like I said before for Orders, always do Orders despite if you lack the experience and it has high difficulty, because you will get gold for it and experience anyway. It’s a good way to level up. Another good way is to smelt all of the weapons you loot after battle.
Perks to Get
Now as you level up, you will get the chance to unlock perks to help your Smithing. All of these perks are very good, but I do recommend these set of perks for a better Smithing experience:
- Efficient Charcoal Maker – Produces three more units of charcoal from two units of hardwood.
- Curious Smelter – Increases the rate of learning new part designs when you smelt by 100%.
- Curious Smith – Increases your chances of learning new crafting parts while smithing.
- Steel Maker 3 – You can refine two units of fine steel into one unit of Thamaskene Steel, as well as one unit of crude iron as a by product. If you successfully craft orders of nobles, it increases relations by +4.
- Practical Smelter – Your stamina spent for smelting is halved.
- Vigorous Smith – Permanently increases your Vigor by 1.
- Artisan Smith – If you sell smithed weapons, the trade penalty is halved.
- Master Smith – When creating a Masterwork weapon, you will have a 10% chance for success if difficulty requirements are met.
- Enduring Smith – Permanently increases your Endurance by 1.
- Learning Limit – Increases Endurance by +60 and Skill Focus by +150.
- Legendary Smith – Has a 5% chance to create Legendary weapon if difficulty requirements are met. There is also an increased chance by 1% for every skill point reached above 300.
Smelting
As I’ve mentioned before, looting the weapons from your dead enemies and smelting them is a good way to level up. But, it’s not good for that reason alone. If you smelt weapons, you will also get materials from the smelted weapons. This method saves time and money when you are in need of materials. Rather than purchasing them, just fight a bunch of weak enemies and grab their weapons for smelting.
Sell Weapons
If you are in need of some funds, you can always craft some weapons and sell them to kingdoms. The highest profitable weapon right now is the two handed sword, and that is if you make it with the finest steel you have. Of course, you can also sell the weapons you loot from dead enemies instead of smelting them as well. Both methods will give you good income.
Multiple Smiths
Now I’ve said before that having multiple smiths is a great thing to have, and I will explain on that further. When you have one smith in your party, the production of making weapons is slowed to a halt because the one smith you have in your party is out of stamina. That means you will have to wait for a long while until your smith can start working again.
Having multiple smiths at the ready eliminates this problem. If you have one smith that is out of stamina, simply switch to another smith and continue what you were doing. Now you may be asking “but the weapon I’m trying to create is way too difficult for them!”. Let me tell your right now that does not matter.
Your smiths can create the weapons you want, regardless if the difficulty is too much for them, or if they are not experienced enough. It is completely fine, which is why I urge players to have at least 5 smiths in your party. This will help with creating weapons so much.
