While bows or crossbows are the more common and reliable option for your character, with the right perk choices, throwing weapons can be the deadliest weapons in your arsenal, allowing you to defeat heavily armored infantry and cavalry easily, and allowing your troops to penetrate enemy formations.
10 Shield Breaker

Quick Draw | Shield Breaker |
---|---|
|
|
The primary use of throwing weapons is breaking the shield wall formation of the enemy infantry, and the first perk that helps tremendously with that goal is Shield Breaker. This perk increases the damage done to shields by both you and troops under your command.
Quick Draw can be an effective perk early on when you are mostly facing looters and bandits who are not carrying shields. But once you pass the beginning stages of the game, and considering the limited number of throwing weapons you and your troops have at their disposal, the increased damage becomes much more valuable than draw speed.
9 Hunter

Flexible Fighter | Hunter |
---|---|
|
|
While using throwing weapons, you are vulnerable to charging cavalry. Successfully hitting the moving cavalry units is a difficult task, so taking down their mount before they reach you becomes your best option. Hunter is a great perk that, with high enough skill and good-quality weapons, allows you to kill most mounts in one hit.
Flexible Fighter's first benefit is not that useful, as using throwing weapons in melee is not an optimal choice. But its secondary effect greatly boosts troops in your formation, as it gives them a flat increase in their fighting skills.
Flexible Fighter increases the ranged skills of your infantry and melee skills of your archers, giving them more flexibility and effectiveness when caught out of position.
8 Well Prepared
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (4) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (4)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/03-well-prepared-perk.jpg)
Mounted Skirmisher | Well Prepared |
---|---|
|
|
While mounted combat is the preferred style for most playthroughs, in this instance, Well Prepared is the superior perk compared to Mounted Skirmisher. Throwing weapons are very limited in the amount of ammunition that you can carry, so any perk that increases this limit is highly valuable.
Mounted Skirmisher is a decent perk to have on a companion who is the captain of your cavalry troops. Specifically, Battanian and Aserai cavalry that focus on throwing weapons can benefit from the damage increase offered by this perk.
7 Knock Off

Knock Off | Running Throw |
---|---|
|
|
Running Throw is one of the least exciting perks in this skill tree. While the secondary benefit of this perk gives a considerable increase to your troops' throwing skill, the damage bonus offered by its primary effect is too small for the perk to be worthwhile.

Knock Off, on the other hand, has one of the most satisfying and fun effects for throwing weapons. Watching cavalry troops being thrown off their mounts after being hit by you never gets old, and even if you don't kill them with the first hit, they will be much easier to deal with without their horse.
6 Saddlebags
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (7) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (7)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/05-saddlebags-perk.jpg)
Saddlebag | Skirmisher |
---|---|
|
|
Similar to Well Prepared, Saddlebags increases the throwing weapon ammunition that you and your troops can carry, and considering how much damage throwing weapons can do, this is a considerable bonus to your combat performance.
Skirmisher is a decent alternative if you prefer to fight on foot, but keep in mind that the extra ammunition only requires you to start the fight mounted. So you can dismount from your horse once the battle starts and still get the benefit.
5 Focus
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (8) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (8)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/06-focus-perk.jpg)
Focus | Last Hit |
---|---|
|
|
Zooming is a nice addition to help with your aiming with ranged weapons, but with the limited range of throwing weapons and their curved travel arc, it's not as important as it could be with bows and crossbows. Even still, Focus might be the better perk by the time you have reached this level in throwing skill.
Last Hit increases the damage you deal to the troops below half their hit points. But considering how throwing weapons can one-shot the strongest enemies at higher levels, this bonus might never be applied unless you use throwing daggers as your primary weapon.
While throwing daggers are one of the weakest weapons in the game, they are an extremely valuable weapon in prison break missions. You can only take civilian weapons and armor in these missions, and throwing daggers is the only ranged option at your disposal.
4 Head Hunter
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (9) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (9)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/07-head-hunter-perk.jpg)
Head Hunter | Throwing Competitions |
---|---|
|
|
By the time you reach this level with throwing weapons, hopefully, you've had enough practice in aiming throwing weapons so you can headshot your opponents more consistently. In this case, Head Hunter becomes an amazing perk to ensure you can kill most enemies in a single throw.

There are tons of units you can choose from in Mount & Blade 2, but these are the absolute best in the game.
Throwing Competitions is only a decent perk if chosen for a companion who is the governor of one of your settlements. Otherwise, its cost reduction is completely negligible in the mid to late game.
3 Resourceful
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (11) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (11)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/08-resourceful-perk.jpg)
Resourceful | Splinters |
---|---|
|
|
While Resourcefulness is another great perk to increase our throwing weapon ammunition even further, both perks at this level can be significantly effective in certain situations.
If you use throwing axes and often face infantry-heavy armies, Splinters is an amazing perk that allows you to leave the enemy shield wall in, well, splinters. Otherwise, you can never go wrong with a few extra throwing weapons at your disposal.
2 Long Reach
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (12) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (12)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/09-long-reach-perk.jpg)
Long Reach | Perfect Technique |
---|---|
|
|
If you focus solely on throwing weapons, you eventually face the problem of running out of ammunition in longer battles. While you are on your foot, you can easily grab weapons thrown by you or other troops lying on the ground, but if you are mounted, that might not be an easy option.
Long Reach is a unique perk that allows you to pick up items from the ground while mounted. This would be incredibly useful for throwing weapons, but it also works with any other weapon that might be left on the ground.
1 Impale
![Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (13) Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord - 10 Best Throwing Perks (13)](https://i0.wp.com/static1.thegamerimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/10-impale-perk.jpg)
Impale | Weak Spot |
---|---|
|
|
If you have put in the time and energy to level up your throwing skill to 275, you get to pick one of the best and most fun perks in the entire game. Impale allows your thrown javelins to penetrate shields and very likely kill the enemy behind it and push them back.
Weak Spot is a decent option if you focus on throwing axes and can't benefit from impale. Still, it might be worth it to change your gear just to see the dramatic animation and ridiculously high damage numbers when you impale the enemy through their shields.
