Prayers and rituals are observed at Guru Ravidas temple, situated in Tughlakabad, Delhi on the auspicious occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.
Guru Ravidas was born near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He was a prominent spiritual leader, spiritual Guru, mystic poet, and saint during the Bhakti movement. He is best known for his spiritual teachings, life lessons, and wisdom. Saint Ravidas was a social reformer and a strong advocate of social justice, gender equality, and freedom. He is revered for his role in the abolition of the caste system and social evils. The words of wisdom and devotional songs penned by Guru Ravidas Ji have inspired many people, leaving an indelible mark on their souls. Guru Ji’s teachings and hymns are composed in Guru Granth Sahib, Dadu Panthi, and other Sikh scriptures. Guru Ravidas’s forty-one hymns are featured in the Adi Granth.
It is widely held that Guru Ravidas Ji was taught by Ramananda, a bhakti poet. Some texts mention that Guru Ravidas shared similar spiritual beliefs with Saint Kabir. Guru Ravidas’s preachings were based on spirituality and self-realization. Two forty hymns authored by Guru Ravidas ji are a part of the holy book ‘Amritbani Guru Ravidas Ji’.
