Apple Crumble made with Stevia is a reduced sugar fall baked dessert that is perfect for apple season. Serve it warm with some frozen yogurt, ice cream, or a dollop of fresh cream.

Lately, I have been having fun delving into the world of organic products. From health and beauty care items to consumables; I have a growing urge to live a healthier lifestyle.

If you are not familiar with stevia, it is a plant based sugar substitute that come from the stevia plant.

Personally, it took me a good week to adjust my taste buds from white sugar to stevia, but now it’s smooth sailing.

I find the stevia plant to be very sweet in taste with a slight lingering after taste. Once I got used to it, which wasn’t hard at all, it became my #1 sugar substitute of choice. I wanted to kick most of my white sugar habit to the curb and this plant surely did.

I have tried several brands of stevia, and keep finding myself going back to theSweetLeaf ® brand.

I felt like some Apple Crumble so I was sure to incorporate some SweetLeaf Organic Stevia Packets into the recipe. This reduced the sugar by a ton because I also use a brown sugar stevia baking blend.

Apple Crumble Made with Stevia Ingredients

  • 5 cored, peeled, and sliced apples-I used what I had on hand, but Macintosh, or granny smith work well also
  • 1 stick of butter melted
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Organic Unbleached Flour
  • 2 tablespoons stevia or 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons stevia brown sugar baking blend or 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon

How to Make Apple Crumble

  1. Peel, core, and slice your apples into slices.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Grease a 9 x 9 glass Pyrex with nonstick spray.
  4. Add apples to the Pyrex pan and pour the water over them.
  5. Top with cinnamon. I used about 1/2 tablespoon but you can use less or more if you prefer.
  • In a bowl mix the flour, stevias (or sugar), and butter until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle over the apples, and bake for 40 minutes, uncovered.

Serve warm with frozen vanilla yogurt or ice cream. My family loves this dessert for breakfast too!

Can I use Regular Sugar in this recipe?

Yes, if you want to use regular granulated sugar & traditional light brown sugar, the measurements are 1/4 cup of each. I make this recipe either way depending on who I make it for.

What apples are the best for crumble?

The best apples for crumble (in my baking opinion) are Granny Smith, and Macintosh. However, at the end of the day, you can bake any apple and it will still be delicious.

I have never baked with an artificial sweetener, but I think it would save a ton on calories without sacrificing flavor.

Stevia can definitely be an acquired taste. I love that it’s become so easy to find decent brands in mainstream markets, now. I remember when you could only get it as a tincture!
